I am the author of the short, inspirational book Portia. I want to join you and your staff of women volunteers and fight poverty and domestic violence. Because knowledge and strong imagination unlock doors to freedom from domestic violence, I have enclosed two complimentary copies of Portia. Written in memoir, format, Portia is the story of a successful defense attorney who lives in Chicago. At the start of the book, Portia is coming out of a seven-year abusive relationship. Her father is the person who encourages her to open her heart to the possibility of true love again. She does. While attending a Christmas party at the Tribune Towers Portia meets a handsome, dark skinned man. They start to date and soon fall deeply in love. Two weeks before their wedding date, Portia schedules a blood test and an annual exam. Results of the exam reveal breast cancer and turn Portia's life upside down and leave her forever changed.
